Passenger Rail Kansas (or PassengerRailKS.org) is a grass roots organization dedicated to the expansion of passenger rail in the Kansas region. With our sister organization, Passenger Rail Oklahoma (or PassengerRailOk.org), we are working to expand Amtrak's Heartland Flyer beyond Oklahoma City to Kansas City. The Heartland Flyer currently operates only between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City to Newton, Kansas portion of this route has been without passenger rail since 1979. This is despite the fact that high quality tracks are in place today. Amtrak presently operates the Chicago and Los Angeles Southwest Chief on the Kansas City to Newton portion of the proposed route.
